1) So…here we are. It has been 370 days since Mom died. Man, that sucks! It just sucks that she’s gone! It just hurts. It’s just stupid. I just…miss her so much. I want her to come back. Yes, I know that she’s always with me, but you know what I mean. I want her HERE.
2) A year ago today we were getting ready for a funeral. Our house was filled with people, food, laughs, tears, picture boards…it was fun. We were surrounded with love.
3) We are still surrounded with love!! Sometimes I wonder how we got so lucky!
4) But then I remember: Mom taught me what the Golden Rule meant. She embodied it, and helped me embody it, too. Then I met a guy who also embodies it. Meanwhile, I met a whole bunch of other peeps who embody it…and here we are. That’s how we got so lucky.
5) We celebrated one year by having an open house. Friends and family came by. We ate and drank (some of us drank more than others.) (Me. I drank more than others.) We laughed and hung out and it was perfect. We weren’t sad…we rejoiced in community! Sometimes we talked about Mom, but mostly we didn’t. We were just happy to be together. Thank you for that, everyone.
6) My heart is still broken. Others who have gone through this know that my heart will never be the same. But others who haven’t have asked me about it, so….my heart is still broken. It will mend, but it will mend a little “off.” It’s just the way it is, dang it.
7) But I’m also grateful for the non-healing/healing. I’m different now than I was before. In good ways, mostly.
8) The winter is hard for me. Is it hard for you?
9) How’s your self-care going, friends? Are you ok? Are you making time for yourself? I know, I know, easy for me, right? We’re child-free. Still…please make some time for yourself and get off the internets when your head is about to explode. Please? Thanks.
